Bangkok Airport (BKK) is located 25 kilometres (16 miles) north of the city of Bangkok. It serves the city and surrounding areas and acts as a principal hub for Thailand and other parts of South-East Asia. Bangkok International Airport (BKK) serves a constant flow of business travellers, holidaymakers and backpackers and is one of the top 30 world airports, with over 25 million passengers a year.
Bangkok Airport has two international terminals and a domestic terminal, serving more than 80 airlines. This busy airport will also offer a new parking lot, expanded runways and passenger terminals as part of development work underway in 2005.
A second Bangkok international airport, Suvarnabhumi Airport, is set to receive passenger traffic from 2006. Suvarnabhumi Airport is approximately 25 kilometres (16 miles) from downtown Bangkok in the Bang Phli district.

International Airport Bangkok Terminal Information
Bangkok International Airport has a complex of three terminals: International Terminals 1 and 2 and the Domestic Terminal. The International Terminals are built side by side. The Domestic Terminal is 500 metres from Terminal 2 and is connected by an air-conditioned walkway and a free-to-user bus shuttle. The terminals are constantly busy, as Thailand is a major destination for backpackers, business travellers and holidaymakers. Short-stay tourist visas may be obtained at airport immigration, which means entry queues are often longer than at other airports.
Terminal 1 has 124 check-in counters. It handles flights for more than 30 airlines including Aeroflot, Air-India, EgyptAir, El Al, Korean Air, Malaysia Airlines, SAS and Thai Airways.
Terminal 2 has 96 check-in counters. It handles flights for more than 30 airlines including British Airways, China Airlines, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Kuwait Airways, Lufthansa, Qantas and Singapore Airlines.
The Domestic Terminal has 43 check-in counters. It handles domestic flights for Bangkok Airways, Thai Airways and others.
News, books and speciality shopping are available in the airport.
A range of shops is located in the 3rd floor departures hall. Souvenirs, books and electrical appliances are available from King Power Tax Free. Bangkokgreen is a florist and International Products sells fruit and fruit products. Shanghai Goldsmith is a clothing store. Perfume, cigarettes and alcohol are available from the two duty-free shops, Airport Duty Free and King Power Duty Free.
The Terminal 2 parking building offers convenient shopping opportunities for everyday necessities; it houses a drugstore, a convenience store and a supermarket.
Restaurants and Bars
Bangkok International Airport offers travellers a variety of dining options, ranging from US-style fast food to traditional Thai food.
The biggest concentration of food and beverage outlets is on the 4th floor of Terminal 2. There you will find a variety of American fast-food restaurants such as Pizza Hut, Burger King, KFC, Baskin Robbins and Mr Donuts. Swensen's, a coffee shop, is located nearby. Located on the same floor is the Brewhouse Restaurant, which serves English fried breakfasts 24 hours a day, a Chinese restaurant and a cafe, which offers Internet access.
Thai food is served at the Thai Restaurant on the 4th floor of Terminal 1 and at the Savoy restaurant in the Domestic Terminal. Thai food is also available at the airport's food court in the parking building of Terminal 2 and at other points in the terminal complex.
The Nopponte Japanese Restaurant offers Japanese food on the 2nd floor of Terminal 2.
Currency Exchange and ATMs
There are three banks in the airport. The Thai Military Bank is located on the ground floor of Central Block, the Bangkok Bank is located on the 2nd floor of Terminal 2 and the Krung Thai Bank is located on the 2nd floor of Terminal 1.
Banks offer ATMs and currency exchange counters in the arrivals and departures halls of Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and the Domestic Terminal. There are also currency exchange bureaux and currency vending machines in the same areas.

International Airport Bangkok Car Parking
The parking facilities at Bangkok International Airport can accommodate over 5000 cars. There are two principal areas: the Bangkok International Airport office building, with parking on the basement, ground floor and 2nd floor levels, and a dedicated seven-storey parking garage. The Domestic Terminal also offers a small car park.
Parking charges vary according to which car park you use and how many wheels your vehicle has.
Bangkok International Airport does not advertise any dedicated arrangements for long-stay parking.
International Airport Bangkok Ground Transportation
A range of transportation services connect the airport to Bangkok and other parts of Thailand. Limousines, taxis, airport buses and local buses operate between the airport and the city. Don Muang train station is a short distance from the airport and provides train services to and from Bangkok and the north of the country. Shuttle bus services help travellers move around within the airport.
Don Muang train station is located 500 metres from the airport. Signs show the way between the station and the arrivals hall of Terminal 1. Trains run to Hua Lumpong railway station in central Bangkok, which acts as a hub for the rest of the country. Trains also run from Don Muang to the north and north-east of the country.
Services operate to Hua Lumpong between 06:06 and 20:07. There are more services in the early morning than there are during the rest of the day, when the wait between one service and another can be as much as an hour.
Internal Airport Shuttle Bus Services
Within Bangkok International Airport air-conditioned shuttle buses service two circular routes free of charge.
Route A1: Service runs every 15 minutes from 05:20 to 23:00 daily. There are bus stops on the platform outside the arrivals hall at International Terminals 1 and 2 and the Domestic Terminal.
Route: International Passenger Terminal 1 - International Passenger Terminal 2 - Domestic Terminal - Cargo Agent 1 Building - VIP Rooms Building - International Passenger Terminal 1.
Route A2: Service runs every hour from 06.00 to 17.00, Monday to Friday. There are bus stops on the platform outside the arrivals hall at International Terminals 1 and 2 and the Domestic Terminal.
Route: International Passenger Terminal 1 - International Passenger Terminal 2 - Domestic Terminal - Customs Bureau Building - Four-storey Car Park Building - Cargo Agent 4 Building - Office of AAT Storage Division - VIP Rooms Building - International Passenger Terminal 1.
These air-conditioned vehicles serve four routes between the airport and the city. The boarding area is outside Terminal 1 arrivals hall.

Taxi ranks are located outside the arrivals hall of Terminals 1 and 2 and the Domestic Terminal. There are three types of taxis: licensed metered, licensed unmetered and unlicensed.
Travellers are advised to use licensed metered taxis. The cost of a journey in one of these will consist of the meter charge plus tolls for expressways. The price of a journey in an unmetered taxi should be negotiated before the taxi sets off. It is not advisable to use unlicensed taxis. As with other cities around the world, newly arrived travellers may be seen as targets for unscrupulous practices and robbery.
Limousine services operate to and from the airport. Limousine service counters may be found in the arrivals hall of Terminals 1 and 2 and the Domestic Terminal.

TRANSFER BETWEEN TERMINALS
Free shuttle buses connect all three terminals.
The main road linking the airport to central Bangkok is the Vibhavadi Rangsit Road; it is also possible to travel into Bangkok via faster toll-motorways.
A car park is located in the basement of International Passenger Terminal 1; in addition, there is a seven-storey car park next to International Passenger Terminal 2 and a three-storey car park in front of the Domestic Passenger Terminal.
Avis is located in the first floor meeting hall in Arrivals, between International Passenger Terminals 1 and 2. Other car hire companies, including Budget, have desks in the Arrivals area in the Domestic Passenger Terminal.
Rail: Trains run to Bangkok from Don Muang Station, opposite the airport, to Hua Lumpong Railway Station in central Bangkok, from where trains to destinations throughout the country can connect. Road: Taxi: Licensed metered city taxis (with black and yellow plates) can be flagged down outside Departures; passengers should make sure that the meter is switched on and never used unlicensed taxis. It is a good idea to have the destination required written in Thai. Limousine: Thai Airways International Public Company offers a limousine service. Bus: Air-conditioned airport buses leave from the front of the Terminal 1 Arrivals area; destinations served include several city hotels, the Grand Palace, Sukhumvit and Bangkok Railway Station. Regular public buses also run to Bangkok Railway Station, Silom Road and the Southern and Eastern Region bus terminals.
INFORMATION AND HELP DESKS
Airport information counters are located in all Arrivals and Departures halls. The Tourism Authority of Thailand counters are located in the Arrivals halls .
Money and communications: Banks, bureaux de change and ATMs can be found throughout the terminals. A postal and telecommunications service is also available at the airport in all three terminals. Mobile phone hire is available in the International Passenger Terminal 1. Eating and drinking: Various restaurants, snack bars and fast-food outlets offer a wide variety of international cuisine in all terminals. Shopping: There are several gift and souvenir shops, as well as a duty-free shopping in the International Passenger Terminals. Luggage: Left-luggage facilities are available in all terminals. Other facilities: These include medical emergency clinics, chemists, a laundry, a baby care room, Muslim prayer rooms and entertainment areas.
CONFERENCE AND BUSINESS FACILITIES
The airport has a business centre providing telephone, fax, computers and meeting rooms; a conference room is available to hire too. Internet services are provided in the CIP business lounges in the International Passenger Terminals. There are also VIP rooms. The Amari Airport Hotel (tel: (0)2 566 1020; website: www.amari.com) also offers business facilities, including a 24-hour business centre, Internet and e-mail service, banqueting and conference facilities, as well as a ballroom that can accommodate up to 1,000 people.
Facilities for disabled travellers include lifts, accessible toilets and an electric car for transport around the terminals. Passengers requiring special assistance should inform their airline at the time of booking. Car parking for disabled travellers is also available.
