Introduction

London Heathrow Airport (LHR) is the United Kingdom's principal airport serving close to 67 million passengers annually. Heathrow Airport is connected to over 160 destinations worldwide via 90 airlines.

BAA London Heathrow is located 15 miles (24 kms) west of London, and provides excellent connections to England's capital city by road and rail. London Underground 'Tube' trains to Central London leave every five minutes and take under an hour, whilst frequent Heathrow Express train to Paddington Station take just 15 minutes. The M4 motorway provides a fast road link between Heathrow and London.

London Heathrow Airport has four main terminals: the first three terminals are connected by walkways, with Terminal 4 accessible via an Express train service. A new fifth terminal is scheduled to open in 2008, enabling Heathrow to handle up to 90 million passengers. The first complete gate room at Pier 6 was completed in September 2005, one of four gate rooms that will make-up LHR's new 280 metre long glass-fronted building.

Heathrow Airport has introduced Iris Recognition Systems as part of Immigration Control, and is set to begin serving the 500-seater A380 passenger plane in 2006.

Terminal Information

Terminals 1, 2 and 3 are located next to each other at the centre of Heathrow Airport (LHR), whilst Terminal 4 is located to the south of the airport. Terminals offer a wide variety of services and facilities for the airport patrons including restaurants, bars, cafes, Internet access, business facilities and information desks. The terminal areas feature many facilities such as accessible restrooms, telephones for the hearing impaired and special seating areas for passengers with physical disabilities.

Terminal 1

All Heathrow's UK and Ireland flights operate from Terminal 1, as well as some European and long-haul destinations. Checking in for all destinations operate from the first floor of Terminal 1.

Terminal 2

Check-in area is located on the ground floor. Departures and arrivals are located on the first floor. Self service check-in is available for Air France and Lufthansa.

Terminal 3

Check-in area is located on the ground floor of Terminal 2. Departures and arrivals are located on the first floor. Self service check-in is available for British Airways, SAS and Virgin Atlantic.

Introduction

Heathrow Airport (LHR) provides car rental facilities at each of the four terminals. Companies providing rent-a-car services at the airport include Hertz, Avis, Europcar, National, Alamo, Enterprise and Budget.

Car Parking

Heathrow Airport (LHR) offers four parking options including short-stay, long-stay, business parking and valet parking. Parking for the physically challenged passengers is also available at the airport.

Short-stay Parking

Each of the four terminals at Heathrow Airport (LHR) feature short-stay parking and it is ideal for durations of less than five hours. A fifth short-stay car park is located in the central terminal area. The general height limit for these car parks are 2 metres and vehicles up to 2.6 metres can park on the roof of car park 4 (serving Terminal 4) and on the ground floor of car park 3 (serving Terminals 1, 2 and 3). Discounted weekend rates are also available.

Long-stay Parking

This parking area serves all terminals and it is ideal for longer stays. Travel time from the car park to the terminals is approximately 20 minutes.

Valet Parking

This service is available at all four terminals at Heathrow Airport (LHR). Chauffeured Parking Service receptions are located on the terminal forecourts and this service can be pre-booked. The Executive Club members or passengers travelling in a premium cabin can make full use of the British Airways Express Parking service. Receptions are located right outside Terminals 1 and 4.

Business Parking

Business car parks are located closer to the terminals than long-stay car parks and operate a more frequent courtesy coach transfer. Park 1 serves Terminal 1, Pink Elephant Parking serve Terminals 1, 2 and 3 and Park & Fly serves Terminal 4 at the Heathrow Airport (LHR).

Parking for the Physically Challenged

Special parking spaces for the physically challenged (indicated by the blue / orange badge) are available at the Heathrow Airport (LHR).

Train Services

Heathrow Express

The Heathrow Express operates between Heathrow Airport (LHR) and Central London . It is the fastest travel option available from the airport and trains run every 15 minutes, every day.

RailAir

Railair buses operate to and from a number of railway stations which connects an extensive list of UK destinations including South Wales, Northampton , Birmingham , Liverpool, Manchester , Southampton, Portsmouth , Winchester and local railway stations such as Staines, Richmond , Clapham Junction and London Waterloo.

Heathrow Connect

The Heathrow Connect is a train services that operates between London Paddington and Heathrow Airport , every half hour, in both directions, throughout the day.

The Underground

The London Underground is a cost-effective way of travelling to the heart of London from the Heathrow Airport (LHR). There is one station that serves the central terminal area of Terminals 1, 2 and 3. The underground service to Terminal 4 is currently unavailable due to construction.

Coaches

The Heathrow Airport (LHR) is served by a number of different coach operators including National Express. Most coaches pick up and set down passengers at the central bus station, which is located close to Terminals 1, 2 and 3.

Bus Services

Heathrow Airport is served by many local buses which operate from the central bus station. Some services also stop at Terminal 4.

Hotel Hoppa

The Hotel Hoppa runs terminals 1, 2 and 3 to the hotels situated close to the airport. The Bus and Coach information desk in the arrivals area of Terminals 1, 2 and 3 issue tickets.

Hotelink

The Hotelink service runs between the Heathrow Airport (LHR) and your hotel. For Terminals 1 and 2, go to the information desks, located in the arrivals area and for Terminals 3 and 4, Hotelink representatives will meet you and assist with your luggage. Heathrow Airport London Airport Security

Introduction

Increased security measures are in operation in UK airports, though since 2001 check-in and flight delays have not increased significantly. Your airline can advise on check-in deadlines, but you should aim to arrive at least three hours before departure for international flights, two hours for European flights and an hour for UK and Ireland flights.

Driving Directions

Terminals 1, 2 and 3 are located next to each other at the centre of Heathrow Airport (LHR), whilst Terminal 4 is located to the south of the airport. Therefore it is important to check which terminal you must go to before setting off to the airport. Heathrow Airport (LHR) is accessible by two motorways; M4 and M25.

From M4

To arrive at Terminals 1, 2 and 3 turn off M4 motorway at junction 4. To arrive at Terminal 4, turn off M4 motorway at junction 3.

From M25

Turn off M25 motorway, at junction 14 to get to the airport.

When travelling to Heathrow Airport (LHR) it is always advisable to allow for delays, especially when travelling at peak times.

AIRPORT NEWS:
A new Terminal 5 is currently under construction. The Tube station at Terminal 4 is closed until September 2006 (with a replacement bus service in use from Hatton Cross). This is due to the extension of the Tube line to the new Terminal 5.

TRANSFER BETWEEN TERMINALS
Terminals 1, 2 and 3 are within walking distance of each other, via underground walkways. Transfer between Terminals 1, 2 and 3, and Terminal 4, which is located on the south side of the airport, is free on the Heathrow Express train (journey time: 8 minutes).

DRIVING DIRECTIONS
Terminals 1, 2 and 3 can be reached via the following motorways: M4 Junction 4, M25 Junction 15, A4 (local road). Terminal 4 is reached via the following motorways: M4 Junction 3, M25 Junction 14, A30 (local road).

CAR PARKING
Several car parks are available. Each terminal has its own short-stay parking lot, operated by NCP (tel: (0)870 606 7050; website: www.ncp.co.uk) in Terminals 1, 2 and 3, and by APCOA in Terminal 4. A free shuttle service travelling between the terminals and the long-term and business car parks is provided. Parking can be booked online via the website or by telephone (tel: (0)870 000 1000). Valet parking is available at all four terminals; CPS provides chauffeured parking (tel: (0)870 411 1118; website: www.parkwithcps.com). Disabled drivers can request assistance from customer service staff at the car parks. Motorbikes can park free of charge at designated areas at each terminal.

CAR HIRE
Alamo, Avis, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz and National are all represented at each terminal.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Rail: Train: The frequent Heathrow Express non-stop train service to London Paddington Station takes 15-20 minutes (tel: (0)845 600 1515; website: www.heathrowexpress.com). Paddington is served by mainline national rail routes to the west and south west of England, and is on the London Underground network. From London King’s Cross Station, served by the A2 Airbus service (see below), passengers can connect with mainline train services to the north of England and to Scotland. Underground: The airport is also on the London Underground’s Piccadilly Line, which can take passengers into central London. INFORMATION AND HELP DESKS
Information desks are available in each terminal. Transport information desks, for bus, coach and rail options, are located in Terminals 1 and 3, and outside Terminal 4. The Hotel and Traveller Centre, in Terminal 3, provides visitor information, London Underground tickets and hotel accommodation. Help desks are also located throughout the airport, where passengers can seek assistance by using a courtesy telephone and can also look at terminal maps.

AIRPORT FACILITIES
Money and communications: There are ATMs and bureaux de change facilities throughout the airport, as well as post offices in Terminals 2 and 4. There are public telephones in the main areas of each terminal, as well as wall-mounted pay fax machines. Webpoints are available in Terminal 4. Eating and drinking: There are numerous restaurants, bars, fast-food outlets, coffee shops, pubs and sandwich bars throughout the airport. Shopping: There are a wide variety of shops in each terminal including music shops, bookshops, newsagents, clothing accessories shops, electrical goods shops, pharmacies, sunglasses shops, shoe shops, sweet shops and perfumeries. There are chemists in all terminals; the Terminal 1 chemist dispenses prescriptions. Luggage: Left-luggage offices can be found in each terminal, whilst lost property can be reclaimed from the Airport Lost Property Office (tel: (0)20 8745 7727). Other facilities: These include a chapel, showers, a visitor centre (tel: (0)20 8745 6655) and a health centre (tel: (0)20 8745 7047).

CONFERENCE AND BUSINESS FACILITIES
Wall-mounted credit-card-paid fax machines are available throughout the airport. Wireless Internet access is available in the Departures lounges of all terminals. The Business Centre, in the Queen’s Building (tel: (0)20 8759 2434) offers 20 meeting rooms, a conference suite seating up to 60 delegates, meeting refreshments and business support facilities including workstations, online computers, faxes, photocopiers, videoconferencing and audiovisual equipment. Showers are also available. There are several airline, business and executive lounges in all terminals.

DISABLED FACILITIES
Information for passengers with disabilities is available from Heathrow Travel-Care either at counters or by telephone (tel: (0)20 8745 7495). Detailed access information is also available on the airport’s website. There is a Minicom information line for the hard of hearing (tel: (0)20 8745 7950), wheelchair-accessible telephones and text telephones, as well as induction loops. Reserved seating and disabled toilets are also available in all terminals. Wheelchairs push and provision, and help with baggage from Departures to check-in, are available free of charge and can be pre-booked through Skycaps (tel: (0)20 8745 6011 or 5727). Assistance is also available by using the telephones at the various help points situated throughout the airport. Passengers requiring wheelchairs and special assistance should also contact the individual airlines prior to travel. The Help Bus (tel: (0)20 8745 6261) is a free wheelchair-accessible bus service that operated between all terminals and the central bus station. Disabled parking is also available. The Heathrow Express, black taxis and many bus and coach routes provide facilities for wheelchairs.

The Hilton Heathrow (tel: (0)208 759 7755) is a short walk over a bridge from Terminal 4. The Hotel Hoppa transfer bus service runs frequently between Terminals 1, 2 and 3 and the main nearby hotels, while the Hotelink bus offers a door-to-door service to London hotels.
