Madrid International Airport is located 13 kilometres (eight miles) north-east of central Madrid and provides a choice of convenient transport options to and from Madrid city centre. The Madrid Metro to Nuevos Ministerios takes 12 minutes and also links to the rail network; regular buses run to Barajas-Canilejas and Colón from all terminals and to Avenida de América station. Transport by taxi or car to central Madrid normally takes under 30 minutes.

Barajas Airport Madrid Terminal Information
Madrid Barajas Airport (MAD) has three terminals. The largest, Terminal 1 (colour-coded orange on signs), is for most international flights. Terminal 2 (colour-coded green) handles domestic Spanish flights and Iberia European services to Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Italy, Luxembourg and Portugal. In addition, Air Europa flights to France , Italy and Portugal are handled at Terminal 2. Terminal 3 (colour-coded red) is for Iberia domestic shuttle services and Iberia / Air Nostrum regional flights.
Moving walkways connect the terminals and there's a transfer bus for passengers changing flights and terminals.

Barajas Airport Madrid Car Parking
Madrid Barajas Airport (MAD) has two major parking facilities, which provide both long- and short-term parking, plus a short stay only area for periods of up to 30 minutes.
Parking Area P1
P1 is an open-air car park for long- and short-term parking, located opposite Terminal 1 departures, with space for 2300 cars.
Parking Area P2
P2, opposite Terminal 2, is a six-storey garage for long- and short-term parking, serving all three terminals. Access to the terminals is from the central walkway on Level 1. All floors have lifts (elevators).
Short-Stay 'Express' Parking
Located at Terminal 2, ground level, 'Express' parking is for short periods only (up to 30 minutes).

Madrid Barajas Airport (MAD) is served by taxi, Metro and bus. Transfers between terminals are by shuttle bus.
The Madrid Metro subway system links the airport with the city. There is no direct airport link to the main rail network. Passengers wishing to connect with the main train stations for travel outside Madrid should use the Metro. The airport Metro station is in Terminal 2 on the connecting corridor to Parking Area P2. Trains run daily from 6:00 am to 1:15 am. The journey involves changing at Mar de Cristal (Line 8) to reach central destinations.
Official taxi stands are located outside each terminal's arrivals area. Journey time to central Madrid is 25 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic. Note that passengers should take a taxi from a stand rather than from anyone offering taxis inside the terminal.
The airport bus to Plaza de Colón (Route 89) departs from the arrivals level of each terminal from 4:45 am to 2:00 am. They operate every 15 minutes until 6:00 am, then every ten minutes between 6:00 am and 9:30 pm. After 9:30 pm they operate every 16 minutes.

There are no lockers inside the terminals, but facilities exist at ground level outside Terminal 1 arrivals lounge and on the connecting walkway between Terminal 2 and Car Park 2. The charges per day are minimal.

From Central Madrid via the M-30 Highway
Access the M-30 via A-2 or via N-11 (highway to Barcelona ). The airport exit is 12 kilometres (eight miles) from the centre.
From the M-40 Highway
Access from exit 3, via A-10; from exit 9, via N-100. Both go direct to the airport terminals.
The terminals are colour coded on signs approaching the airport: Terminal 1 - orange; Terminal 2 - green; Terminal 3 - red.

The airport is currently undergoing expansion, with a new terminal building, a satellite building and two new runways planned for 2005. This will double the airport’s capacity.
TRANSFER BETWEEN TERMINALS
A free shuttle bus transfers passengers between the terminals and the long-stay car park.
From the city centre and M30, go on the A2 (road to Barcelona) and exit at km12.
Long- and short-term car parking is provided at the airport with over 10,000 spaces. There are five public parking areas. P1 is an outdoor car park, located in front of the terminal building; P2 is an indoor car park with direct access to the terminals. A Parking ‘Express’ facility, for short periods only, is located at Terminal 2 and dedicated long-term parking is also available; a free shuttle operates between the long-stay car park and all three terminals. There is also a VIP car park.
Companies include Atesa International, Avis, Hertz and Europcar, with desks located in Terminals 1 and 2. Ares Mobile provides chauffeur-driven cars.
Rail: Underground: The Madrid Metro Line connects the airport with Madrid’s city centre station Nuevos Ministerios in the heart of Madrid’s financial district (journey time: 12 minutes). The Barajas metro (line no. 8) provides a fast route into central Madrid, via Mar de Cristal; the metro also provides links to stations on the Spanish railway network. Road: Taxi: Taxis are available from the airport (journey time: 20-30 minutes); passengers should make sure that the meter is turned on at the beginning of the journey. Passengers are advised not to accept any offers of taxis made inside the terminal building. Taxi ranks are situated in front of the Arrivals areas of all terminals. Bus: Bus no.101 runs to Barajas-Canilejas, and bus no.89 to Colón, both from all terminals. A new public bus service also runs between the airport and Madrid (Avenida de América station): bus no. 200 (red bus) stops outside the baggage reclaim area of Terminals 1 and 2.
INFORMATION AND HELP DESKS
The airport has several information counters, located throughout the three terminals, with a team of over 100 ‘Skycaps’ on hand to assist passengers and provide information. There are also two tourist information counters in Terminals 1 and 2.
Money and communications: Facilities include three banks, several bureaux de change, ATMs and a post office. There is a 24-hour bank in Terminal 1. Eating and drinking: There are more than 30 restaurants, cafés and bars. Shopping: There are over 100 shops at the airport, including duty-free. Luggage: There are two left-luggage offices at the airport, in Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Other facilities: There are pharmacies, nurseries and a medical service centre in Terminal 1. Travel agencies and tour operators are also represented.
CONFERENCE AND BUSINESS FACILITIES
There are seven fully equipped meeting rooms available at the airport. A conference and business centre is located in Terminal 2. Rooms are available to hire (tel: (0)913 936 797 or 913 936 808). There are also VIP lounges in all terminals. The Madrid Chamber of Commerce and Industry (tel: (0)913 058 807) has a small office in Terminal 1, with copy, fax and telephone services, which are available for a fee.
The airport is fully accessible to wheelchair users and all airlines can provide wheelchairs upon request; passengers should request this service when booking their ticket. There are reserved car parking spaces for disabled travellers.
